An ethnography of the Parintins festival informing on the history of the ox merriment in Brazil. Analyzed from the perspective of ritual studies, the festival is seen as a contemporary cultural movement that, while enhancing regional indigenous roots, expresses a positive statement of a Brazilian caboclo, or mestizo, cultural identity.
